Life Transformation Through Mind Renewal
"Heart Check"
by D. V. Cummings
"... For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart brings forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure (of the heart) brings forth evil things." ~ Jesus Christ.
For the last several months there has been a strong dialogue concerning the various controversial statements that were made by well-known people in the entertainment world. Individuals such as Mel Gibson, Michael Richards, Paris Hilton, and Don Imus (to name a few) blatantly displayed their loathsome disregard towards the public by voicing their thoughts of hatred and contempt towards various groups of people.
Although those words that were used are as old as the society in which we live, somehow we still seem to find ourselves in utter shock every time we hear them. Even in this twenty-first century, we marvel at the fact that racism, anti-Semitism, sexism, etc., is still as alive and well as it was centuries ago.
Throughout the years, laws have been passed, vocabularies have been altered and books have been both written and rewritten - yet the same poisonous sentiments still chime from the lips of all those who boldly express them with extreme arrogance.
Town hall meetings, special forums, think tanks and caucuses - all types of dialogue groups are now being formed to deal with this age-old problem of intolerance. A special attempt to ban the lyrics of certain songs is now in strong demand by various community and civil rights leaders in hopes to correct this problem.
The irony of it all is that the same individuals who are publicly calling for change either contribute to or support the "business-as-usual" ideology that has so successfully aided in upholding the unbearable intolerance that is so intricately woven into the fabric of our society.
More and more, the questions are being asked, "What can we do to change all of this? What can be done to change the old biased opinions of the past so that we as a society can move forward harmoniously?"
The fact of the matter is this: An individual speaks from the heart.
The most valued and cherished beliefs and emotions that an individual embraces are stored in the heart (heart chakra). Old emotions formed from the teachings and beliefs of others, along with the emotions created from past life-changing experiences oftentimes become rooted and grounded into an individual's heart; It is these emotions that forms the individual's character; and it is the individual's character that always shine. It shines through the words that are spoken as well as through the deeds that are performed. So, if the beliefs and emotions consist of love, joy, compassion and healing, they will be reflected in the conversation. Again, if the beliefs and emotions are full of fear, hurt, hatred and frustration, these will also be reflected in the conversation. And we must always remember this one fact: "Words Create Worlds".
So, the most positive and lasting thing that each and every one of us can do is to perform a personal "heart check". A personal "heart check" is a thorough evaluation of the true contents that are stored in the heart. To do this, one must ask questions such as these:
Exactly what are my beliefs concerning - life, people, the environment, money, etc.?
Are my present beliefs my own - do they originate with me (my personal knowledge or experiences) or do they originate from the beliefs and teachings of others?
Are my beliefs and emotions filled with love?
Do my beliefs and emotions create joy?
Can these emotions be used to build a more positive and loving environment for all of humanity?
If the answers are yes, then by all means, we must immediately express what is in our hearts. However, if the answer to any of these questions are no, then we owe it to ourselves, as well as to the whole of humanity, to make the necessary changes that will produce positive benefits within our individual beings.
Poison kills. A character created by toxic beliefs and experiences always destroy the soul. And - it is the contents of the heart that forms the character.
It is my desire for each and every soul that is on this planet to experience all of the love, peace, joy and happiness that this vast universe has to offer. Remember, it was 'LOVE' that created this universe. To experience all of the wonderfulness of this universe, our characters must be in sync with the wonderful universal flow.
So, I strongly encourage everyone to take the time and perform a personal "heart check" so that all can experience total universal bliss.
